MGO + EPS Panels

Outer Boards : Magnesium Oxide (MGO)

Central Core : Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

Excellent Strength, Healthy & Fire Resistant

MGO is a sustainable material, making it an eco-friendly option for construction projects. It exhibits excellent physical strength, acoustic insulation and is also well known for its safety benefits because it is one of the most fire resistant materials available. With an A1 fire rating, it is resistant to direct flame and heat for up to 4 hours without burning or emitting toxic fumes. But MGO is also very conducive to healthy living, particularly for those with asthma and chemical sensitivity. This is because the primary constituents of MGO are natural and benign, these are; magnesium oxide which is often taken as a a health supplement, and magnesium sulfate, more commonly known as epsom salts. As such, MGO does not off gas and the boards do not contain fly ash, cement, synthetic resins, formaldehyde, crystalline silica or toxins. MGO boards are moisture resistant and have great moisture stability meaning they do not swell, buckle or rot if exposed to humid environments. MGO's inorganic nature means that it is termite and insect resistant.

Magnesite is a naturally occurring mineral often found in sedimentary rocks. It is used to make Magnesium Oxide slurry a cement like material that is combined with a mesh and formed into boards that have an array of desirable physical properties. As such, MGO is finding increased uptake in the construction industry.

Building with MGO SIPs is more or less the same as with the more common OSB SIPs. MGO is denser and thus heavier but can be cut with the common circular saw and has great screw and nail holding abilities. A major benefit of constructing with MGO SIPs is that the interior surfaces of MGO SIPs comes ready to paint. This means that when the panels go up, your inner wall is ready to go, you simply tape and plaster the seems, and paint. Interior plaster boarding and battening can be eliminated from the project. The exterioir surface of MGO+EPS SIPs can be painted with a sealant for direct contact with the elements, but is more common to wrap with a vapour barrier and then use the cladding materials of your choice such as weather board, brick or render. MGO and EPS are very well suited together making strong and energy conserving walls that are quick to build, long lasting, fire safe and healthy to live in.
